Diabetic retinopathy: early detection and prevention are the cure!

Retinal screening through a dilated eye exam is recommended annually for all South Africans living with diabetes. Diabetics should request a referral for the exam if not offered to them by their Doctor. The exam should ideally be done by an Ophthalmologist, but can be performed by an Optometrist or at a Clinic level where resources are limited.
