We have 6 specialist consulting suites with direct access from the parking area. The ground floor also houses a shared networked diagnostic equipment area. Your relative or friend can relax in the airy lounge while waiting for you, with delicious refreshments from the coffee shop. The free wifi access ensures always-on connections for your convenience.
Our Ophthalmologists
Dr. Andre Burger
Dr. Andre Burger is an experienced Ophthalmic surgeon, with a special interest in the fields of Vitreo-retinal and Oculoplastic surgery. He obtained fellowship training in these sub-specialities in the United Kingdom.
Based at the Pietermaritzburg Eye Hospital, he provides consultations and surgery for a wide range of medical and surgical eye conditions, such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye conditions, age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachments, retinal vascular conditions, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and a variety of lid procedures.
Alongside his private practice, he also devotes time to teaching and training young aspiring ophthalmologists in the state sector.
He has a team of efficient and friendly staff, who provide a welcoming and helpful atmosphere. Together, they will help you understand your eye condition, and will aim to treat you in a holistic and balanced approach. They will guide and empower you with enough knowledge, to make an informed decision with regards to your eye care.
When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his family.
Patient care is Dr. Burger’s priority and he will try to help you to the best of his ability.

Dr. Ed Anderson
Dr Anderson is an internationally recognised ophthalmologist who actively participates in multiple congresses. He has a special interest in treating cataracts, glaucoma and retinal disorders including diabetic eye disease. His surgical expertise includes cataract surgery, glaucoma procedures and refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) and squints (strabismus).
With high attention to detail, the professionalism of his practice assists the patient through the entire journey of eye health care.
He is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons (South Africa) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK).

Dr. Mark Harrison
Dr Mark Harrison has been a specialist Ophthalmologist for 20 years. His practice is located at the Pietermaritzburg Eye Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. He has a special interest in Cataract surgery, Pterygium surgery, Glaucoma Surgery and Eyelid procedures. He also provides medical treatment for a range of eye disorders including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.
Dr Harrison is joined in his practice by two ophthalmic assistants, Thabile and Sashnie, and Monica at reception.
Dr Harrison is married to Lynelle and has a daughter and son. An avid outdoors enthusiast, his interests include fishing, hiking, surfing and long-distance running.

Dr. Enslin Uys
Dr. Enslin Uys is passionate about Ophthalmology and strives to give his patients the best eye and vision care.
He treats patients with various eye conditions which include diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.
His comfort in treating patients of all ages starts with squint correction (strabismus) procedures in children. Squint surgery is also performed in adults, although less frequently.
With his additional training in vitro-retinal surgery, he performs delicate macular hole surgery as well as treats retinal detachments and epi-retinal membrane removal.
He has a sound knowledge of neuro-ophthalmology and is able to treat neurological ophthalmic conditions such as proptosis; cranial nerve palsies; thyroid eye disease (Graves’ eye disease) and diplopia (or double vision).
At Dr. Uys’ practice, the entire team believes in maintaining the health of your eyes and your vision is a priority no matter what age.
Dr. Uys is absolutely passionate about South Africa and exploring the unseen areas of the country, either by car or on his bicycle, and sharing this with his family. He is married with a teenage daughter who shares his enjoyment of the outdoors whether through running or cycling.
